Parables

In the gospels Jesus makes extensive use of parables, especially to convey images of the kingdom of heaven, but often the result leaves the hearers puzzled. Why does Jesus use parables as a communication tool and for whose benefit are they intended: his disciples, the onlookers or successive generations like us? This session seeks to explore the use of parables and similar devices across scripture, especially the gospels, and to discover their unique ability to convey deep theological messages that no other medium can achieve.
